A Fair And Balanced Child Support Award

As a parent, one of your biggest concerns is whether you will be able to support your child. In Texas, the law allows for custodial parents to receive payments from noncustodial parents to help pay for a child’s food and clothing, shelter, as well as any special education or medical needs.

At the law office of Zollie C. Steakley, PLLC, we share our clients’ concerns and work hard to ensure that parents pay (or receive) a fair amount of child support. We understand the importance of having a formal agreement, as well as the importance of being able to enforce that agreement once a divorce is final. Whether you are looking to negotiate support obligations or to enforce a pre-existing order, we are ready to help.

Please contact our Sweetwater family law attorney online today, or call 325-455-0628 (toll free at 888-900-1428) to schedule your initial consultation.

We look forward to helping you obtain the best outcome possible.

Texas Child Support Guidelines Approach

A judge will look at many factors before issuing a child support order. These factors include:

  • Both parties’ income
  • The custody/living arrangements
  • Each parent’s living expenses
  • Health insurance premiums for the child and other medical costs
  • A child’s educational needs

Of course, there could be many other issues specific to your and your child’s situation. The court will consider all factors relevant to your case to determine the appropriate level of payment. The final amount is typically based on by predetermined guidelines, but a judge has the discretion to go outside of those guidelines, when appropriate.

At Zollie C. Steakley, PLLC, we know that it is important to balance the needs of a child and the living expenses of a noncustodial parent. A child needs to be properly cared for, but a noncustodial parent must be able to afford to live by himself or herself following a divorce. This is why we work closely with our clients and the opposing side to negotiate child support obligations that are appropriate for the family’s entire situation.
